Kelly Mitchell
Kelly Mitchell defines success with the help of a famous Maya Angelou quote: "Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” Simply put, she feels most successful when contributing to the greater good — and as an independent wine salesperson, consultant, and educator, she’s doing exactly that.
Kelly is a sales representative for Skurnik Wines & Spirits, an importer and distributor of fine wine, spirits, sake, and glassware. She is also the founder of Kelly Mitchell Wine, where she is a wine educator, private consultant, and guest sommelier for wine tastings and events (including the infamous James Beard House!). “What gets me out of bed in the morning is the excitement I have about no two days being similar,” says Kelly. “I have created a unique and multifaceted career within my area of passion and look forward to the work that lies ahead each and every day.”
The Spelman grad and Hall of Femme honoree launched Kelly Selects in April 2020. It’s an e-commerce boutique in partnership with online wine retailer Wired For Wine, where Kelly shares her faves and makes them available to consumers. She uplifts other women in the wine industry through mentoring and amplifying their work. “I am grateful each day to be able to do what I love,” Kelly says. “Work and life feel seamless because I truly love being able to have an impact through my work, while remaining authentic to myself.”
