Shannon Maldonado

After working in fashion design for more than 12 years with brands Ralph Lauren, American Eagle Outfitters, and Urban Outfitters, Shannon launched her Philadelphia-based storefront, YOWIE, in 2016 via a series of experimental pop-ups and a small but charming webshop of just 12 objects. YOWIE is a brand built on community and one-of-a-kind products, events and service, and Shannon constantly looks to create an intersection between design and community in her work, creating spaces that invite discovery and have unexpected references and details.

What gets Shannon out of bed in the morning is “creating a space that makes people feel inspired and working with artists and makers,” and she loves mentoring and amplifying young creators at the beginning of their practice.

Past collaborators include Fred Segal, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Lisa Says Gah, CB2, and ICA Philadelphia. Shannon holds a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology and sits on the board of directors at Fleisher Art Memorial as one its youngest members.
