Whitney McGuire
Whitney has a long list of accomplishments, but at the very top are mother, New York State licensed attorney, and self-employed legal and sustainability consultant and strategist. She is the co-founder of Sustainable Brooklyn, an organization that disrupts the whitewashing of sustainability in order to concretize equity, and a fierce advocate for the sustainability of communities – especially those most impacted by environmental and social degradation due to the climate crisis.
“My work is my values. There's no separation there. It's the only way I can create the change I want to see in the world,” she says.
Whitney, who is based in Brooklyn, was raised Buddhist in Dayton, Ohio, attended boarding school in Rhode Island, and is the child of a formerly incarcerated parent. She comes from a long line of educators and artists, and performed with the Blue Man Group once upon a time. In addition to her work as an attorney, Whitney is a professor of Business Law at Parsons School of Design and a pioneer in the field of fashion law.
